However, the water temperature fluctuates, and there are certain months when it’s simply most pleasant to swim in the ocean or make exciting discoveries while diving. On which sea is Dubai located?
Dubai is located on the Persian Gulf, which is a marginal sea of the Indian Ocean. The Persian Gulf is also known as the Arabian Gulf and is an inland sea located on the world map between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. The Persian Gulf is connected to the Indian Ocean via the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz.
Dubai has a coastline approximately 70 kilometers long. This figure does not include the beaches created by the artificial Palm Jumeirah island, which also attract numerous tourists. Dubai’s cityscape is defined by the Khor Dubai. This inlet of the Persian Gulf divides the city into two parts.
Where can you go swimming in Dubai?

Many hotels come standard with an attached beach area, where hotel guests have the beach to themselves. However, there are also several public beaches in Dubai that are open to everyone and, as a result, are quite crowded during peak season. Public Beaches in Dubai:
- Jumeirah Open Beach: A central and bustling stretch of beach, also known as Jumeirah Public Beach, which is consequently very popular. Umbrellas and lounge chairs are available for rent on the beach. Showers are provided.
- Kite Beach: This beach is especially popular with active vacationers. A wide variety of water sports are available on and in the water. Restaurants and food trucks provide meals for beachgoers.
- Al Sufouh Beach: The locals call this beach “Secret Beach.” Al Sufouh Beach is a quieter spot. The fine-sand beach offers an unobstructed view of the Dubai skyline and Palm Island.
- Al Mamzar Beach Park: The park is a popular destination for families and includes several beach sections. The area also features playgrounds, picnic areas, and several pools. On “Ladies-Only” days, only women and young children are allowed.
- The Beach, JBR: This beach is very popular and always bustling. There are numerous shops and restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

A Closer Look at Dubai’s Climate
This dazzling metropolis is largely surrounded by desert. It has a dry and hot desert climate. This arid climate is typical of Dubai. This is the case when the average precipitation measured over a 30-year period is lower than the potential evaporation.
It’s tropically hot along the coast. In the summer, rainfall is virtually nonexistent, and in the winter, it rains only very rarely. Summer in Dubai lasts from April through November. During this time, temperatures rise well above 30 degrees Celsius. In the height of summer, Dubai experiences temperatures of more than 40 degrees Celsius. Near the coast, humidity reaches about 80 percent in midsummer. In Dubai, the water temperature at this time—around 35 degrees Celsius—isn’t exactly refreshing.
January is the coldest month in Dubai. During the day, the temperature reaches about 25 degrees Celsius. At night, temperatures around 15 degrees Celsius are not uncommon. Between December and March, you may need an umbrella in Dubai. However, with an average annual rainfall of 70 millimeters, heavy downpours are not to be expected.
The Best Time to Visit Dubai
The best time to visit Dubai is from November through March. During this period, temperatures are pleasantly summery, and the water temperature—just over 20 degrees Celsius—is perfect for a refreshing swim. It’s becoming increasingly popular among European vacationers to spend the Christmas season in Dubai and escape the cold winter.
If you don’t mind the tropical climate, you can take advantage of the low hotel rates in the height of summer and enjoy the solitude on the beaches. In the height of summer, public life in Dubai increasingly takes place in air-conditioned shopping malls or amusement parks. People go swimming only in the evening or in the early morning hours.
Scuba Diving in Dubai
If you’re planning a diving vacation in Dubai, you should aim for the months of October through May. The hot summer is not recommended for diving, because you’ll start sweating much too quickly in your wetsuit.
Starting in October, temperatures drop to about 24 to 32 degrees. This creates ideal conditions both on the water and underwater.
The Best Diving Spots in Dubai
Exploring the underwater world in the Persian Gulf is definitely an experience. The Jumeirah neighborhood is defined by the water. Not far from the beaches, numerous marine creatures thrive in the water. Local tour operators organize diving excursions where you can spot mackerel, rays, and sea turtles.
The emirate of Fujairah is just a stone’s throw from Dubai. Martini Rock and Dibba Rock are popular diving spots. A special highlight is the “Car Cemetery.” Hundreds of cars and trucks were sunk here in the 1980s, creating a bizarre underwater landscape.
Tours are also offered to the shipwrecks off the coast of Dubai. Boats depart from Palm Island and reach the Zainab wreck in less than an hour. Rays, snails, barracudas, and flatworms have long since made the shipwreck their home. A list of wrecks that can be explored during dives is published by the Divers Down dive center.
